Message from the Founder, President & CEO
Welcome
Web Site Visitors and Users,
Health Power is a proud
and committed provider of customized, or tailored, health information and promotion
services to improve the health of multicultural populations. We are
also pleased to provide consultative and training services to
public, non-profit and private organizations. Whether serving individuals or organizations,
we are always committed to:
- improving the physical, mental and spiritual health of multicultural populations and
the health of their communities;
- assisting the capacity building efforts of organizations that serve multicultural
populations regarding their provision of culturally sensitive, relevant,
and competent services;
- providing authoritative, user-friendly and culturally relevant health information
and messages multicultural populations that focus on:
- desirable lifestyles and health practices, in order to help reverse the well documented
racial and ethnic health disparities in the nation;
- the importance of achieving and maintaining physical, mental and spiritual health,
knowing that they individually, and collectively, have a major impact on the economic,
social and overall health and well-being of individuals, their families, and their
communities.
Health Power uses a
variety of approaches to achieve its goals and objectives:
- Developing and electronically disseminating customized health related information
through The Internet (or cyberspace), while simultaneously helping
to narrow the Digital Divide, another major need for many multicultural
individuals;
- Also using broadcast, print and other media such as brochures, newsletters and Tip
Sheets for health information and messages. These approaches permit us to:
- serve individuals who do not have access to computers, or have not yet appreciated
the research and educational benefits of The Internet enough
to make computer skills development a high priority; and
- serve non-computer based institutions such as faith institutions, educational institutions,
beauty shops and barber shops, supermarkets, discount stores, drug stores, etc.
- Conduct conferences, workshops, seminars, and other group activities for training,
education, strategic planning, and health related interventions.
- Provide consultative services to public, non-profit and private organizations.
In achieving all of the above, we give high priority to the conduct of focus groups,
key person interviews, and other market research activities with targeted sub-groups,
as well as with those serving multicultural populations.
Saying thank you, both privately and publicly, is always important. Without
the unequivocal moral, hands on and financial support of our
Co-Founder and my sister, Phyllis A. Anderson, Health Power would not have been possible. I
appreciative to our Board of Directors which is growing in standing, pertinent expertise,
and influence. Support from our Banner Sponsors, the American Heart
Association-Heritage Affiliate, and Aetna has been especially helpful, and we are
pleased to have received a recent grant from GlaxoSmithKline to assist our work
devoted to the prevention, early detection and control of depression in multicultural
populations. Fusion Productions has also been very helpful. Our highly competent
and dedicated staff contributes greatly to our progress as well as our Editors and Advisors, and Web Partners. The leadership of Friends of Health Power is
also a much appreciated part of the Health
Power family.
See About Health Power and Health Power Partners for
more information about those mentioned above, as well as others who have greatly
assisted our progress.
In spite of our marked progress to date, there are many miles to go given the challenges
associated with helping to eliminate the nation’s racial and ethnic health disparities.
Therefore, we very much need your help as:
- ambassadors
- donors
- sponsors
- volunteers
Let us hear from you because this campaign needs many hands on board.
Norma J. Goodwin, M.D.
