Welcome to Health Power®
Dr. Goodwin
Norma J. Goodwin, MD
Founder, President
and CEO

I am very pleased that David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., a longtime colleague and friend, accepted the invitation to be Health Power’s Inaugural National Minority Health Month Honoree.

Recent and Upcoming Health Power Connections and Actions for Multicultural/Minority Health:

We obtained our 44th and 45th Cross-linked Web Partners in March: African American Collaborative on Obesity Research (AACORN), and Latino Commission on AIDS.

I participated, by invitation, in the Annual Meeting of the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention, and an associated Town Hall Meeting on the powerful documentary for PBS, Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?.

I spoke on Eliminating Health Disparities through a Nationally Unique Web Site at the 12th Annual Conference of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) held on April 17-20th in Washington, DC. The overall conference theme was Health Care Reform & Health Disparities: A Priority for Hispanic Communities. The National Hispanic Medical Association is a Health Power Cross-linked Web Partner, and its President & CEO, Elena Rios, M.D., M.S.P.H., is an Editor on Health Power’s Hispanic Channel.

I will be moderating during the Annual Meeting of Region I of the National Medical Association in St. Martin/St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles/Caribbean. The conference administrator is Vashti Henriques.

  B. Waine Kong, PhD, JD, former CEO of the Association of Black Cardiologists, a Cross-linked Health Power Web Partner, and Editor of our Spiritual Health Channel, is now Executive Vice President of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean.

Andrea King Collier   We are pleased to announce that Andrea King Collier, lead author of the award winning Black Woman's Guide to Black Men's Health and a Food and Society Policy Fellow, W. K. Kellogg Foundation; has become a Health Power Health Editor. Her work has appeared in the Washington Post and the New York Times, and appears regularly in such magazines as Essence, O, The Oprah Magazine, National Medical Association Magazine, AARP Magazine, and Woman's Day. A former journalism fellow of the National Press Club Foundation at the National Cancer Institute, Collier is a board member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
